WHAT WE LIKE & DON’T LIKE ABOUT IT: 

The Ryzen 5 5600x really benefits from the huge IPC increases that come with the Ryzen 5000 series GPUs, it’s often estimated to be 15% higher than Intels 10th generation CPUs. This huge IPC increase means despite the clock speed being at 4.6GHz, it’s still able to outperform its competitor which is the I5 10600K.

Also, the Ryzen 5 5600x is clearly a budget processor, but what really amazes me is that it’s still able to outperform the likes of the I9 10900K in gaming situations, often generating more FPS. This means the Ryzen 5 5600x is punching way above its weight, and it only costs around $200.

Also, it comes with a free stock cooler which makes this a huge bang for your buck, despite what people say about stock coolers, they’re usually enough especially if you’re not overclocking. We heavily recommended The Ryzen 5 5600x for a mid-tier 3060 TI gaming build.

The biggest feature that comes with most Ryzen processors and not just the 5600x is that they come with a free stock cooler. This means you don’t have to waste money purchasing an aftermarket cooler which often can be quite expensive.

WHAT WE LIKE & DON’T LIKE ABOUT IT: 

Our favorite aspect about the Ryzen 7 5800x is that it serves more as a multipurpose processor being great at nearly everything. What this means is that the Ryzen 7 5800x is great when it comes to streaming, gaming, and video editing. This is backed up by the fact it has decent single-core performance as well as multicore performance.

Compared to the Ryzen 5 5600x, you will definitely experience slightly higher frame rates due to the higher clock speeds. WHAT WE LIKE & DON’T ABOUT IT: 

The I9 12900K delivers what you’d expect in a top-end processor, we like the fact that the raw performance is essentially the best you can get. Pairing this with the RTX 3060 TI means that the bottlenecks would be at an absolute minimum no matter whether you’re gaming, streaming, video editing, or 3D modeling.

Secondly, the best part about the I9 12900K is that it’s practically future-proof and will last for many years. Even when you upgrade your RTX 3060 TI, the I9 12900K will still be plenty for gaming. We reckon the I9 12900K would last several generations without becoming obsolete, so you won’t need to upgrade as much.

However the I9 12900K isn’t all that perfect, we don’t like the fact that the CPU gets pretty hot, especially in intensive situations. If you don’t have sufficient cooling, then the I9 12900K could overheat which is bad for performance and lifespan. You will absolutely need a top-tier air cooler or at least a 240MM AIO if you’re looking to run this CPI or even overclock.

WHAT WE LIKE & DON’T ABOUT IT: 

With the release of Intel’s 12th generation processors, we really appreciate the fact that Intel is looking at innovation with their performance and efficiency cores. The benefit to this hybrid architecture is that they’re more efficient in terms of die space. The asymmetrical design means it costs less and performs better.

Besides the architecture, the I7 12700K is a single-core performing beast, in games, this processor will generate far more frames per second compared to the Ryzen 7 5800x processor. Also, the 12700K is a multi-core beast, so this CPU is great if you’re looking to stream and game at the same time.

For professional use, the I7 12700K would be a great processor if you’re into 3D Modelling, Video editing, and much more. The fact that it has updated integrated graphics means with video editing, you can leverage their inbuilt encoders and decoders.

One thing we kind of dislike is the fact that it has a TDP of 190W when turbo, this means you will need a beefy cooling solution for these processors. In intensive gaming situations, if you don’t have a decent cooler, it may throttle.

An aspect that we don’t like is the fact that the I5 can get pretty hot, this is an issue as you’ll require top-tier cooling which can be quite expensive. Heat can be pretty dangerous to components if you cant cool them well, so invest in a decent air or AIO cooler.

A processor’s clock speed will define how fast each core of the processor is, so if you have a clock speed of 5GHz, each core will run at 5GHz.

GHz refers to how fast each core will cycle per second, so if you have a clock speed of 5GHz, then each core will cycle 5 billion times per second. But there’s a catch to single-core performance, the clock speed isn’t the only metric to define the performance of a single-core, and only focusing on clock speed is a pretty bad idea. Clock speed is extremely important for gaming as games can only utilize a single core! Don’t focus on multi-core performance as much for gaming PCs.

When it comes to single-core performance, there is IPC which stands for instructions per cycle, it essentially defines how much work your processor can do per clock cycle. So, a processor with a higher IPC will be faster than a processor with a lower IPC despite having the same clock speeds. This is why you can’t only focus on clock speed, older processors with higher clock speeds will still be outperformed by newer more advanced processors.

Multi-Core Performance

Just like the clock speed, there’s a lot that goes into the multicore performance of the processor, typically we like to look at how many cores a processor has. The general consensus is that having more cores will make your processor run faster, this is technically true, but not for all applications. As previously stated, games don’t really benefit from having more cores.

There are really two aspects that mainly go into measuring the multicore performance of a processor, and this is core count and the number of threads. Processors will usually have double the number of threads than cores depending if they have SMT or Hypertherading capabilities. When you purchase a processor and it says 6/12 or 6c12t, they’re referring to the number of cores and threads.

Now that we’ve established what multi-core performance is, the applications that really benefit from the multicore performance are video editing, streaming(software encoding), and other multithreaded applications. Most applications nowadays are parallelized in some way, so they will all benefit from multiple cores, but games are notoriously hard to parallelize.

Overclocking Capabilities

The goal to getting maximum performance out of your processor whether it’s multicore or single-core is through overclocking, and it’s pretty safe. Overclocking is when you push your CPU past its rated limits resulting in more performance, this is obviously extremely beneficial and measurable in multicore and single-core tests. If you have a “K” Intel processor, then your CPU is ready for overclocking, and most Ryzen processors are unlocked by default and ready for overclocking.

Overclocking usually involves going through the BIOS to manually increase the clock speed modifier, it’s recommended to overclock through the BIOS as you will have more control over the voltages. The goal is to increase the clock speed modifier whilst maintaining stability without increasing the voltages, this is how you maintain your CPUs lifespan.

Overclocking can be extremely safe if you have sufficient cooling, and you don’t increase the voltages. It’s when you start tampering with the voltages for more core stability at higher clocks that your processor can be in harm’s way. But besides that, overclocking can result in higher FPS in games, better streaming performance, and faster video editing rendering times.
